Pat Shannan's MUSINGS
Pleonastic Propaganda
Who feels inundated as I by the continual gun control propaganda emanating from the Columbine High tragedy? Stop it already, you morons, we are not that stupid! Nor do we believe that even you are. The two kids who were blamed for the atrocity, although testimony from numerous other witnesses shows this to be another fabrication of "patsies" akin to Oswald, Ray, McVeigh, etc., are said to have broken 19 gun laws already on the books. Are we to believe that with the passing of one or two more, the boys would have ceased their actions?
The Hitlerian, Orwellian Doublespeak rhetoric of Clinton and Reno tends to nauseate realists. With all their idealistic regurgitations, Arkansas Bubba and The Butcher of Waco have not come up with one plan to stop criminals from acquiring guns. Yet every plan has been but one more designed to disarm law-abiding Americans.
My favorite Monetary Realist, Dave Wilber of St. Louis, has temporarily diverted his attention to the Second Amendment and offers a point to ponder:
"The desire of octogenarians to have well rounded bellies, the right to keep and drink beer shall not be infringed".
He then asks: "Does this say that only octogenarians should be permitted the drinking of beer?" 'Nuf said.
As soon as the television pictures from Columbine High School started flickering into the nation's living room, the Clinton/Reno gang went into overdrive. They knew that this was going to be a story with a huge emotional impact on Americans. They also knew that when emotions run high, reason suffers. They knew they had to strike hard and fast at their Republican and conservative enemies before people had a chance to stop grieving and start thinking again. There must be some way to turn this situation to the political advantage of the gun-grabbers. It didn't take long for the game plan to evolve. They were going to blame the Littleton shootings on guns and take the gun control issue to the Republicans. It had to be done fast, though, before people calmed down to rational thought levels.
Atlanta talkshow host, Neal Boortz announced: "The Clintonistras were hit with one fantastic piece of luck right off the bat. The evil, hated, monstrosity known as The National Rifle Association was going to be meeting in just a few days in Denver --- just a few miles away from the carnage! The word went out --- challenge the NRA to cancel its meeting. Fan the flames! Generate an atmosphere of blame. Make the NRA responsible for the shootings and paint them as heartless gun-lovers if they don't immediately cancel their meeting and crawl back under those desert rocks they came from. Every night on television - every morning in the newspapers - story after story about the evil of guns. There was RosieO'Donnell saying that people who own guns ought to be put in jail. The hysteria was full blown."
The hysteria reached a new peak when the Senate voted on a Clinton-inspired bill to require background purchases on all gun sales occurring at gun shows. Stop for a moment and consider the fact that neither one of the Littleton shooters purchased the guns they used at a gun show. Yes, three of those guns were purchased at a gun show, but not by either Harris or Klebold. These two bought their guns the way most criminals buy their guns --- from private individuals far away from a gun show. There is no logical reason to believe these guns would have been kept out of the shooter's hands if there had been mandatory background checks on ALL gun sales at gun shows."
Janet Reno rushed to the microphone to regurgitate her normal logic. She said "I am stunned that less than one month after the worst school shooting in our nation's history, the Senate has decided to make it easier for felons, fugitives and other prohibited purchasers to buy guns,"
"Easier" to buy guns? The law wasn't changed. The law was the same after the vote as it was before. The same requirements for checks would have been in effect. The same laws against felons trying to buy guns would have been on the books. So, how did this vote make it "easier" for felons to buy guns? Simple --- it didn't. But you certainly don't expect anyone in the mainstream media to point that one out, do you? The Clinton/Reno crowd saw the deaths of those thirteen innocent students at Columbine High School as a fantastic opportunity to get some more body blows delivered to a hapless Republican Party. They worked it like the experts that they are.
Then, just when the Senate vote was about fail, another "lone nut" went berserk at a Georgia high school, prompting floundering Georgia Senator Max Cleland to vote for the gun control measure and say, "That made up my mind for me, beyond a shadow of a doubt." Perfect timing, Slick.
Former "Meathead," current movie director/producer, and sudden socialist "authority" on political matters, Rob Reiner, reverted to his meathead status recently on Geraldo Rivera's grossly slanted talk show. Reiner said, "I am VIOLENTLY opposed to guns." We wonder just how violent he intends to become without one? As did the students in Tiananmen Square, will he throw his body in front of the tanks coming down Sunset Boulevard? ****************
Joe Banister, the IRS/CID agent who resigned on principal in February and was the subject of our April cover story, reports that things are going well. He expects to have his CPA certificate active soon and has passed the private investigator examination in California. He has had over 60,000 visits to his website since his story appeared. (www.freedomabovefortune.com) He plans in the near future to discuss his personal tax situation with his Rep. Tom Campbell for one BIG reason: He still hasn't been shown where his own liability for the income tax exists. Stayed tuned. ****************
Meanwhile, out in Nevada, a 50-year-old florist and grandmother almost landed in prison for her efforts to help spread the jury nullification word to jurors. When her son went on trial for drug charges in federal court. Yvonne Regas and a friend papered the windshields of nearby parked cars, hoping to let the jurors learn the completely unexpected fact that her son faced 450 years in prison for a single drug transaction nine years earlier. Federal authorities charged her with jury tampering and obstruction of justice, but eventually dropped the charges. Presumably, they gave up hope of figuring out how they could get jurors to convict her without showing them the contents of the pamphlets she had been distributing -at which time her jury would have known the truth about nullification. ************************
Comments of Lt. Gen. Tom Griffin, USA (Ret.) "Now let's see here if I understand all this correctly. President Clinton has ordered our forces to engage an entrenched, politically motivated enemy, backed by the Russians, on their home ground, in a foreign civil war, in difficult terrain, with limited military objectives, bombing restrictions, boundary and operational restrictions, queasy allies, far across the ocean, with uncertain goals, without prior consultation with Congress, the potential for escalation, while limiting the forces at his disposal, and the majority of Americans opposed to or at least uncertain about the value of the action being worth American lives. So just what was it that Clinton was opposed to in Vietnam?"
